Lucy is being kindly sponsored by Kylie MacDonald and Pat Grogan and has been with Australian Cattle Dog Rescue for 2 years.

Lucy is an affectionate girl who is good with children, but who has probably experienced some hard times in her life. She is shy but is gaining in confidence. She was found by a wonderful family in Schofields (west of Sydney) in the bush where she had been dumped. Over the space of several weeks, these kind people won Lucy's trust and eventually she came into their care.

This is their story:

"We came across Lady Lucy during the last school holidays whilst walking our own dog Buster, a 52Kg Rotti cross Alsatian, in the bush behind us. Lady Lucy kept her distance initally and because we had Buster with us she came closer and realised we were not going to hurt her. We put out food and water for her every day - I don't think she had ever been in a closed garden with fencing as she seemed wary of coming into the garden- so we let her stay in the bush under some wood etc where she kept dry, and we met her every morning when we went for our walks with Buster.

After about a week Lady Lucy actually touched her nose on our hand and wagged her tail , and smiled!!! She has such an adorable smile, and we discovered her nature is as good! Every morning and night my husband and I with Buster walked through the bush with Lady Lucy and at the end of our walk she would go to her little " house" and we would go to ours! We put up pictures we had taken of her around the district, but had no calls. We put out emails to all the people we knew who had a family who could give Lady Lucy a home - but with no luck. We phoned the RSPCA to see if anyone had reported losing a dog like this - but again no luck - so we continued to feed Lucy and play with her until we were fortunate enough to find Australian Cattle Dog Rescue. We spoke with Kathy one wet rainy Sunday afternoon, and she said she would provide a home for her until she could find a permanent home for Lucy - so we drove the 8 hours in the car that afternoon and met Kathy and her family and now Lady Lucy is in her trusting and capable hands"

Addendum: Lady Lucy has become an even more special case as she tested + for heartworm. She's also been desexed, has had a C5 vaccination and has been treated for her newest condition with a special injection that not only kills the heartworm but also gives her protection from re-infection. A really special home is needed for this girl. She is however healthy and active and has never shown any symptoms for this illness.

We are always looking for caring people to provide short-term foster homes for rescued dogs.
